The Reveal

¡Pura Vida!
Surprise! I researched for a month before finally finding my Tico (Male Costa Rican) tattoo artist, David. David did such an excellent job on the tattoo and my friend Amy (I gave her less than 24 hours to help me clean up the art work in Adobe Illustrator) incredibly, cleaned up the illustration. Thank you both for helping me to create such a fine and memorable piece of art. I also want to thank Allen for his inspiration and suggestion of using the Phoenix of the Imperial mark. Imperial is the beer of choice in Costa Rica. I chose not to fill in the outline, because I knew the healing process was going to hurt a bit. Ha! So, the next time I visit CR I will have David fill it in. WooHoo!:

Hi Amy! I dig your tattoo! I found your blog, as I too am searching for a tattoo artist in Costa Rica. My girlfriend and I will be there May 19th through the 26th and would like to leave Costa Rica with a tattoo. The reason being is that we've decided to get a tattoo from every place in the world we go. We've also been searching long and hard to find designs traditional of Costa Rica, maybe something significant of the native peoples of Costa Rica. Anyways, this is way to long, but I was just really excited to find your blog and hear that someone else had completed a search that we too are engaged in. If you wouldn't mind emailing me back or replying to this comment with where you got the tattoo and whatever info you may have on native or traditional tattoo's of Costa Rica I would be much indebted to you.
Happy travelling!
Talk to you soon!

Hi Ryan!

Amy is my friend who cleaned up the artwork for me. I'm the one who went through the tolerable pain of the tattoo. (laughing) So stoked you found my blog before your travel plans to Costa Rica. You and your girlfriend are going to have a blast…you know this anyway.

Not sure of where you are staying in Costa Rica, but my tattoo spot was local to where I was living which was Grecia…about 40 minutes drive north of San Jose. If you plan on visiting Grecia (which I highly recommend) I can email you the map and I have the tattoo artist phone number. Oh! How's your Spanish because David speaks no English. (laughing) Send another comment with your email address included, to retain privacy I will remove the email address before posting. The site link on your profile loaded an error message. Talk to you soon!

Hey! Thanks so much for getting back to me! Sorry about the goof up with your name, still didn't catch yours though, so I'll just stick with ksavage for now ;)

I, myself, don't speak any spanish really. My girlfriend is fairly well versed, however so I'm relying on her to some degree.

We're flying into San Jose, staying two nights at Hostel Bekuo. From there we're pretty much free game. We're renting a 4x4 and are planning on going up to see Volcan Rincon De La Vieja and then making our way down. Not sure if we'll strafe the pacific coast or stick to the Gulf of Nicoya. Grecia could easily be on our list. outside of your tattoo artists, what's in Grecia? We're open to any ideas or advice you may have as far as destinations.

We've only got a week unfortunately (juggling school and work), so we're just trying to see and/or do as much as we can. We're not big on resorts or anything fancy like that. Hostels, a tent, whatever is fine with us.

My email is rm81dragon@gmail.com. Not sure what link I have on my blog. I'll take a look, thanks for the heads up though.

Being that you spent some time there, do you have any info and/or know of any people or resources we could reference regarding tattoo's native to Costa Rica?

I should probably stop extending this post any further ha!

Thanks again for getting back with me! Look forward to hearing from you.
